Objective of the Activity:

The lecture aimed to familiarize students with the concept of open-access library and how these resources can enhance the research process by providing free and unrestricted access to a wide range of academic resources.

Description:

The Department of Fashion & Textiles and Central Library successfully organized a guest lecture on “Open Access Library: Beneficial for Research” on 20th December 2024. The session was attended by M.A./M.Sc./M.Com Fashion Design Semester IV and II students, as well as Ph.D. scholars.

The resource person, Dr. Sonal Jain, an expert in library sciences, delivered a comprehensive and engaging lecture. She emphasized the importance of open -access libraries in sharing knowledge widely and enabling researchers to access high-quality academic resources.

Dr. Jain introduced the participants to several popular open-access platforms including EBSCO, JSTOR, ProQuest, DOAB, DOAJ, DELNET, and institutional repositories. She also provided guidance on the ethical usage of open-access materials, and emphasized on the importance of maintaining academic integrity.

She elaborated on the thesis which are there in repository on Shodhganga for the research scholars and talked about plagiarism and ethical issues.

The session was interactive, with students and scholars asking questions about the practical use of open-access libraries for their research. Dr. Jain addressed their queries and shared valuable tips for effective resource management.

Outcome of the Activity:

The attendees found the session highly insightful and appreciated the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about open-access libraries. The lecture expected to enhance the quality and scope of their research through these valuable resources.
