Summary/Description IISU Central Library, the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems and the IISU NDLI Club in association with Institution’s Innovation Council celebrated National Youth Day on the 12th and 13th January 2024 to commemorate the birth anniversary of an Indian Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), who inspired millions of youths throughout the world with his teachings. His strong personality, vast knowledge of science and Vedanta, and empathy towards human and animal life made him the torchbearer of peace and humanity. In recognition and commemoration of his contributions, the information was showcased in the Central Library about Swami Vivekananda, a philosopher, author, religious teacher, and the chief disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna. The importance of his thoughts and preachings was highlighted. The books on Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature and Vedanta Philosophy for spreading philosophical and life-essential discourses of Swamiji were displayed in the library. His books serve as a guiding light, offering profound insights and timeless wisdom that continue to inspire and transform lives. The documentary on the spiritual leader’s life was also screened to inspire the students with his teachings. The documentary revealed that Swamiji played a pivotal role in introducing Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. He was not only recognized as the Father of modern Indian nationalism but also acknowledged for promoting interfaith understanding and elevating Hinduism to the status of a significant world religion. The focus of the screening extended to urging the present youth to adopt his principles and contributions to society, encouraging them to incorporate his teachings into their lives. Students and faculty visited the exhibition with great enthusiasm and interest. The outcome of the activity: “Arise! Awake! And stop not till the goal is reached” Such inspirational statements motivated students to come together and engage in endeavors with purity, patience, and perseverance—key elements for achieving success. Vivekananda's teachings will further motivate the students of the University to actively participate in social and welfare initiatives, contributing to not only societal well-being but also fostering personal development and growth.
