Objective of the activity: To display the valuable collection of books pertaining to Indian culture and philosophy available in the library in order to draw attention and develop interest and curiosity of knowing our culture and traditions among students.
Summary/Description
Central Library celebrated National Librarian’s Day which is observed on 12 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padamshree Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (1892-1972), who is considered as father of library science in India. Dr. Ranganathan dedicated his entire life to library profession in India leaving a rich legacy.
The day was celebrated under the aegis of Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava. On this auspicious day, the Central Library exhibited its collection of books related to Indian Knowledge System- Indian Culture, Indian Heritage, Mythological, Spiritual, Yogic Sciences, Vedas, Puranas, Rare books, Manuscripts, dictionaries in the library from 12th August to 17th August, 2023 in order to develop interest and curiosity of knowing our culture and traditions among students. The books displayed on Indian knowledge system aims to support and facilitate further research to solve contemporary societal issues as it is based on Vedic literature, the Vedas and the Upanishads. The users came across the books of practical techniques like Yoga and meditation, which could help everyone find inner peace and tranquillity.
Students and faculty visited the exhibition with great enthusiasm and interest.
Outcome of the activity: It helps students connect with their cultural roots, provides a well-rounded education, and encourages them to think across subjects.
