A one day workshop was organized by IIS University, Jaipur, a Remote Centre of IIT Bombay outreach programme, in collaboration with IIT Bombay on the “Open Source Library Software Koha” under the project National Virtual Library of India which is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India to be held on Friday, 12th October 2018 from 9.30 AM to 6.00 PM. The workshop was conducted through a blended mode, using both live video conferencing facility (A-VIEW) and Hands-on sessions at the remote centre. There were 23 library professionals who attended the workshop. In the inaugural session, Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, PI, NVLI and Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay outlined the Spoken Tutorial methodology. He told that the participants will learn 'Koha' by listening to Spoken Tutorials and practicing them on live 'Koha' software. The session was followed by Dr. Manju Naika, Central Library, IIT Bombay who provided an overview of Koha the library management software. The technical sessions were conducted by the system administrators Mr. Harvansh Singh, who demonstrated the installation of Koha on windows and Ubuntu Linux using Virtual Box and Dr. Sonal Jain who provided an overview of Koha the library management software and focused on self learning of the management of Koha through spoken tutorials. It was concluded that Koha supports all library housekeeping activities such as Acquisition, Cataloging, Circulation, Serial Control, Patron Management, and OPAC. It also supports Web 2.0 tools. Thus, Koha can be readily configured to the needs of each library and is updated with new features frequently. The workshop proved to be very informative and it will certainly help in academic development.
